So it seems Mac is, indeed, back. CBS has reportedly extended its reboot of the ’80s action hit “MacGyver” for a full 22-episode season.

Tested from the get-go with a not-so-coveted Friday time slot, the program has found itself the top new show of the night with a 1.9 rating average, up 12 percent from a year ago, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which reported the renewal Tuesday.

But while ’80s nostalgia seems a winning formula, CBS is finding a mashup of sci-fi and political satire is, well, not so much, pulling the plug on “BrainDead.”

“BrainDead” debuted in June with over 4.5 million viewers, but the numbers steadily declined, with the final episode bringing in just over 2 million viewers, Variety reported Tuesday.

According to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb.com), the premise of the show centers on “[a] government employee [who] discovers that the cause of the tensions between the two political parties is a race of extraterrestrial insects eating the brains of the politicians.”
