In the end, it’s always the Republicans’ fault.

That seems to be CNN’s Brian Stelter’s worldview, anyway.

After news broke on Sunday afternoon that the Orange County, North Carolina, GOP headquarters was firebombed, and according to authorities, “Nazi Republicans get out of town or else,” was spray-painted on a building close to the attack, Mr. Stelter decided to place ultimate blame on the victim.

“We have no idea who has done this. We don’t know if it’s a Republican, a Democrat, a movement. No idea,” Mr. Stelter said during a segment on CNN’s Newsroom, according to a transcript of the show.

“Could be some core of extremists, some sort of radical. Hopefully we’ll get more information soon. But that kind of action is unacceptable. And we need to have the temperature come down on all sides right now,” Mr. Stelter, who is CNN’s media reporter, said.

Then he added, for the kicker: “Unfortunately, Donald Trump is the lead in terms of raising the temperature at this moment in time.”

Mr. Stelter’s on-air reporting came after a story by The Hill, describing the graffiti comments. As pointed out by Newsbuster’s Nicholas Fondacaro, who first reported Mr. Stelter’s comments: “That’s not really a term Republicans like to call each other oddly enough, it’s usually a term flung by the left.”
