LOS ANGELES (AP) - It’s a car free day in parts of LA.
Some six miles of streets in neighborhoods in and around downtown Los Angeles are closed to motor vehicles Sunday as the city’s latest celebration of the CicLAvia (sick-luh-VEE’-uh) festival opens the lanes to cyclists.
The route stretches through Chinatown, Boyle Heights and MacArthur Park.
Despite some morning drizzle and patchy gray skies, thousands of cyclists, skaters and pedestrians are expected to participate in CicLAvia, modeled on a weekly car-free event started in Bogota, Colombia. It came to LA in 2010.
Food trucks, musical performers and neighborhood guides are set up along the route. The streets will be closed to cars until 4 p.m.
Previous routes have gone through South Los Angeles and along Wilshire Boulevard.
