PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling is again blasting former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee for his leadership when Schilling’s video game company went bust after getting a $75 million state loan guarantee.
In an 1,800-word opinion piece published in The Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/1TTf8x8 ), Schilling repeats criticisms he’s made about Chafee, who was elected as an independent after the 38 Studios deal was approved.
Schilling complains the state and Chafee “never micromanaged anything,” and calls Chafee “unqualified,” ’’a liar and a phony.”
Schilling says 38 Studios was “stunned” and faced “enormous issues” after it received only $49 million of the bond. He doesn’t mention the smaller amount was known well before the deal closed and doesn’t mention that decision was made under Chafee’s predecessor, Republican Gov. Don Carcieri.
Chafee did not return a message.
