Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a leg injury but returned to Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, despite the team saying earlier his day was likely done.

Roethlisberger limped off the field and was taken to the locker room midway through the second quarter after throwing an interception with the Steelers leading 8-6.

“QB Ben Roethlisberger has sustained a left knee injury. He has been taken to the locker room. His return is questionable,” Burt Lauten, the team’s director of communications, had tweeted.

But when the Steelers got their first second-half possession, “Big Ben” was back on the field, hoping to rally the Steelers, now trailing 16-8.

“UPDATE: #7 Ben Roethlisberger will return to today’s game,” the team tweeted on its official account.

A big man for a quarterback, Roethlisberger has had several recent seasons marred by nagging injuries. Last year, he missed four games and parts of four others with various injuries to his knee, foot and head.

With the exception of one game against the Philadelphia Eagles, a 30-point loss where nothing went right for the Steelers, Roethlisberger has been having one of his better seasons, entering Sunday’s game with 1,496 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and just four picks.
