RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The State Board of Elections says a voter outreach worker is no longer working at the agency following an investigation into allegations she misrepresented voting rules to the public.

Board staff says the worker was terminated from her position Wednesday. The dismissal was disclosed at a board meeting Thursday.

The board looked into the worker’s activities after comments at a public meeting recently in Pasquotank County. The conservative-leaning Civitas Institute released event audio in which she seems to tell the audience it’s OK to fill out a relative’s mail-in absentee ballot. The board says it’s a crime to vote another person’s ballot.

Board executive director Kim Strach told the board it was an isolated incident. Emails with correct information are going to some people that interacted with the worker.
