SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - An archaeologist who has conducted excavations at the site of the Battles of Saratoga is giving a pair of presentations on a new book he has written about the Revolutionary War battles.
Dean Snow’s book, titled “1777: Tipping Point at Saratoga,” focuses on a 32-day period from four days before the first battle in mid-September to Oct. 17, 1777, when the British surrendered in what is now the village of Schuylerville.
Snow is giving book presentations at Barnes and Noble in Saratoga Springs on Saturday and at Saratoga National Historical Park in Stillwater on Sunday, the 239th anniversary of the British surrender.
Snow’s first archaeological dig at the Saratoga Battlefield was in the early 1970s. A former Saratoga County resident, he’s now professor emeritus of anthropology at Penn State University.
