LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Aramark Healthcare Services LLC says it’s laying off 243 workers at Lafayette General Medical Center after the hospital did not renew a housekeeping contract.

Multiple media outlets report Aramark will stop operating that division at the hospital on Dec. 12. The move was announced by the hospital earlier this month but the facility didn’t mention specific numbers.

The move will be a cost-savings that also involves the hospital doing away with valet parking and a fitness gym, which will close Nov. 30.

Lafayette General CEO Patrick Gandy has said Aramark will continue to run its food and nutrition services.

Affected employees will be able to apply for jobs within the hospital.
