GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump repeated Thursday that he thinks his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton should be tossed in jail for corruption.
“She is a corrupt person, she should not be allowed to run for the presidency,” Mr. Trump said at a rally in Cincinnati, sparking chants of “Lock her up! Lock her up!” from the thousands in attendance.
Responding to the roars, Mr. Trumps said, “She should be locked up, she should.”
Mr. Trump has said if he is elected he will direct his attorney general to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Mrs. Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state, and other “crimes.”
In their second debate showdown, Mr. Trump also quipped that Mrs. Clinton would be in jail if he was president.
Mr. Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway has said that Mr. Trump’s declaration that Mrs. Clinton should be imprisoned should not be taken “literally” and said that he is making a broader point that Mrs. Clinton is playing by a different set of rules than ordinary Americans.
“He’s talking about what a lot of Americans want to know: Why the heck this woman wasn’t punished at all?” she said this week on CNN.
