COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) - A northern Idaho judge has rejected a defense motion to take the death penalty off the table for a man accused of killing a Coeur d’Alene police officer.
The Spokesman-Review reports (https://bit.ly/2dP7p6a) that 1st District Judge Lansing Haynes also on Wednesday denied a motion to suppress a police video recording of the shooting.
Twenty-six-year-old Jonathan Renfro is charged with first-degree murder, grand theft, removing a law-enforcement officer’s firearm, concealing evidence, robbery and eluding police in connection to the May 2015 shooting death of Coeur d’Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore.
Kootenai County Public Defender John Adams argued the death penalty should be removed due to insufficient funding for a defense of a capital crime.
Renfro’s trial is scheduled to start Feb. 6.
