ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - Officials in Atlantic City have been notified that they need to submit a revised budget by Monday if they want to avoid a potential takeover by the state.

The Press of Atlantic City reports (https://bit.ly/2e0mkXp ) Local Government Services Director Tim Cunningham sent a letter to Mayor Don Guardian on Tuesday that said the city has a legal obligation to submit a budget to the state.

The budget must be sent by Monday for the Local Finance Board to adopt it at its Nov. 9 meeting.

City council introduced a $242 million budget in August that was $20 million less than the previous year but called for $37 million in transitional aid from the state.

Cunningham wrote that state officials have “fundamental concerns” with the budget.
