Less than a week after the airing of an old tape of Donald Trump’s lewd comments about women, the White House said Wednesday that President Obama is “feeling confident” about the election of Hillary Clinton.
“The president feels good about the broader trends,” said White House press secretary Josh Earnest.
Noting the president’s “passion” at a campaign rally for Mrs. Clinton a day earlier in Greensboro, North Carolina, Mr. Earnest said it was an indication that “the president is feeling confident about the election.”
“But he’s determined to make sure that people don’t get complacent about the outcome of the election,” Mr. Earnest said. “The stakes are still high and we can’t take a single vote for granted.”
Mr. Trump has fallen further behind Mrs. Clinton in national polls in the past week, even falling behind her in the USC/LA Times daily tracking poll for the first time since early September.
The president was conducting radio interviews for Mrs. Clinton’s candidacy Wednesday with stations in the battleground states of Ohio and Florida. He will campaign for her Thursday and Friday in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
