Radio host and The Blaze founder Glenn Beck told fans on Tuesday that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is being sustained in the polls by a “poisoned” Christian church.

Mr. Beck sat down with The Blaze’s Dana Loesch to discuss lewd comments Mr. Trump made about women 11 years ago and the reluctance of millions of Christians to abandon his campaign. He said their behavior is emblematic of a religion that has been compromised from within its own ranks.

“The poison has come inside our churches,” Mr. Beck, a Mormon, said. “Our churches are saying, ’Dismiss what he just did. Dismiss that. OK, sure, he’s never asked for forgiveness. Yes, he calls the sacrament a cracker. Yes, he brags about sleeping with a married woman. Yes, but this is more important.’”

The political commentator went on to say that America would survive if Hillary Clinton were elected the next U.S. president because she’s “an outside force.”

“Christianity is thriving in China because it’s banned,” Mr. Beck said. “Here, it’s dying because it’s everywhere, and it stands for nothing. We survive if the force is outside. We don’t survive if the force is in.”

Mr. Beck’s website went on to note that Mr. Trump’s campaign enjoys the support of Jerry Falwell Jr., president of Liberty University; Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas; and Southern Baptist Convention’s Russell Moore.

Not all of Mr. Beck’s readers, however, agreed with his spiritual diagnosis.

“Why isn’t Hillary ’injecting poison’ in my church on virtually every issue,” asked one reader on Wednesday. “She is poisonous, but somehow Trump, although apparently significantly less popular than Hillary in my church, is poisonous.”

“Glenn needs to realize that Clinton was IMMORAL, so was George Bush, so was his father, so was Ronald Reagan. So were they ALL,” added another.
