DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa developer plans to transform a complex of long vacant, historic structures in Des Moines into a stunning new housing complex.

Television station KCCI reports (https://bit.ly/2dXU3md ) that the $41 million project will be the largest investment in Des Moines’ south side in about 20 years. Developer Blackbird Investments estimates it will bring more than 400 construction jobs to the area.

The renovated housing project will include 142 apartments featuring geothermal climate control, nearly 11-foot ceilings and 6 1/2-foot windows. Thirteen acres of green space and trail systems will connect a host of community attractions such as Blank Park Zoo, Blank Golf Course, the Fort Des Moines Museum and Fort Des Moines Conservation Park.
