PROVO, Utah (AP) - Provo Mayor John Curtis says he will veto an ordinance that would charge a new monthly fee for solar customers.

The Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2dIgbiQ ) that the ordinance, passed Oct. 4 by the Provo Municipal Council, would add a monthly fee based on the size of a customer’s solar array on top of a regular base fee for being connected to the Provo Power grid. The fee is $3 per kilowatt and according to city data the average residential rooftop solar array is 6.15 kilowatts.

Curtis says the fee is not the best way for the city to recoup costs of solar arrays and that his veto will allow the city to reset the brainstorming process.

This will be the second time Curtis has vetoed an ordinance in his seven-year tenure.
