PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) - Kosovo’s football federation says that two of its top officials have resigned to comply with FIFA and UEFA rules against political affiliations in sport.
Federation head Fadil Vokrri said Tuesday said that after Kosovo was accepted as a member of the world and European soccer bodies in May, both his deputy Bekim Haxhiu and Murat Hoxha, an executive committee member, resigned “so as not to have a conflict of interest, in other words that politics does not interfere with football institutions.”
Haxhiu and Hoxha are lawmakers at the country’s parliament.
Kosovoa has been fast-tracked into 2018 World Cup qualifying after joining FIFA.
