“The View” co-host Joy Behar apologized to a national audience Tuesday for calling the women who accuse former President Bill Clinton of rape and sexual harassment “tramps.”

Monday’s broadcast of “The View” featured Ms. Behar and Whoopi Goldberg blurring the lines between women who had a consensual affair with Mr. Clinton and those accusing him of sexual assault. Backlash prompted the comedian to walk back her “joke” less than 24 hours later.

“I want to apologize. I never, ever intend to belittle sexual assault and the women who are victims of it ever,” Mrs. Behar said, Fox News reported. “I made a joke. I’m sorry.”

The comedian previous said presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton should have used Sunday’s debate from St. Louis to announce, “I would like to apologize to those tramps who have slept with my husband.”

The conversation during the segment revolved around Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s decision to give voice to 73-year-old Juanita Broaddrick, Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, and others who have leveled charges against Mr. Clinton for decades.

“On The View today Joy Behar referred to bill Clinton’s victims as ’tramps’ — shame on you Joy — shame on you,” Mrs. Broaddrick tweeted Monday.

The former Arkansas state employee claims Mr. Clinton raped her in 1978 during his time as the state’s attorney general.

Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Willey also accused the former president of sexual harassment. An out of court settlement for roughly $850,000 was reached with Mrs. Jones, and Mrs. Wiley had been subpoenaed to testify.
