Last year, center Dwight Howard averaged just 13.7 points per game with the Houston Rockets, his lowest per game total since his rookie season with the Orland0 Magic.

But Howard plays with the Atlanta Hawks now, his hometown team, and the belief was that may fire him up for this season.

We quickly saw a display of that vintage Howard in the Hawks’ preseason game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. As guard Jordan McRae drove toward the hoop, Howard swatted his layup attempt all the way into the first row of the arena.

Howard, who has twice led the league in blocks per game in his 12 year career, may be looking to do that again this season.
