LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a dump truck driver experienced brake problems before crashing into a motor home on a highway west of Las Vegas, leaving two people dead.

The Monday morning crash happened in a construction zone near Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says the brakes on the 10-wheel dump truck apparently failed, causing the vehicle to lose control and rear-end the motor home.

The two occupants of the mobile home, a 78-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman, died at the scene. Both were from Germany. They haven’t yet been identified.

The dump truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Officials say the truck was passing through the Department of Transportation construction site where crews are expanding Blue Diamond Road, also known as State Route 160. The truck wasn’t involved in the project.
