SEATTLE (AP) - An Army doctor whose military conviction has been set aside is fighting to restore his medical license.
The Seattle Times reports (https://bit.ly/2d5nHq2 ) that Maj. Eric Smith will retire with the pension and benefits due his honorable service but he is still working to get his right to practice Army medicine back.
A panel of senior Army officers has recommended against additional punishment for a doctor jailed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord on a drug charge based on results from a contaminated urine sample. His honorable discharge means he receives most benefits that any other serviceman would be awarded.
Smith says he worries he won’t be able to find work as a doctor in civilian life if he doesn’t have his Army medical license reinstated.
