CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Democrat Colin Van Ostern is going after his Republican rival in the New Hampshire governor’s race, Chris Sununu, for his support of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Van Ostern’s campaign accused Sununu of standing by Trump as other Republicans fled in the wake of the release of a 2005 video Friday capturing Trump making sexual predatory comments about women. Among those abandoning Trump was Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, who earlier said she planned to vote for him.
Sununu’s campaign acknowledged the candidate’s support for Trump. But the campaign said Sununu had “denounced Donald Trump’s comments last week in the strongest of terms,” adding that the criticism was an attempt to “distract from the serious issues.”
The two are running to replace Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan, who is challenging Ayotte.
