COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Police at the University of Maryland in College Park are warning students that one of their classmates was extorted out of an undisclosed amount of money after someone threatened to post nude pictures of him on Facebook.

The student told campus police Sunday that he had been the victim of a scheme in which the scammer may have taken the pictures during an online video chat session the two had.

Authorities say the victim complied with the demands of the extortionist. Police did not release further details but said they wanted to warn the campus about the danger of such incidents.

The University of Maryland Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit asks anyone with information regarding this incident to contact police at: 301-405-3555.
