MADRID (AP) - Sergio Ramos is expected to be sidelined for about six weeks because of a knee injury sustained while playing for Spain’s national team.

Real Madrid said test results Monday showed the defender sprained a left knee ligament.

The club said his condition “will continue to be assessed,” but players with similar injuries usually need about a month and a half to recover.

He is likely to miss six of Real Madrid’s games, four in the Spanish league and two in the Champions League, both against Legia Warsaw.

It’s unclear whether he will be fit for the league derby at Atletico Madrid on Nov. 20.

Ramos had to be replaced with about 10 minutes left in Spain’s 2-0 win at Albania Sunday in European qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
