HYDE PARK, N.Y. (AP) - The Environmental Protection Agency will give a public update this week on its Hudson River cleanup assessment.
The federal agency is reviewing the effectiveness of a six-year project by General Electric to remove 2.75 million cubic yards of PCB-contaminated sediment under a federal Superfund project.
The EPA says it will hold a public workshop Thursday in Hyde Park to discuss the review, which is to be completed by April 2017.
A number of public officials and environmentalists have challenged the cleanup’s effectiveness as they seek additional dredging.
GE has said it is confident the EPA’s review will demonstrate that the project achieved the agency’s goals of protecting human health and the environment.
The Hyde Park workshop is the second of several planned during the five-year review process.
