JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Congress is in recess until after the election, so North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr is picking up the pace on the campaign trail.
The Republican is campaigning Saturday in eastern North Carolina. His campaign said he’s scheduled to be in Jacksonville attending a morning fundraising walk for the National Down Syndrome Society. Burr helped author a federal law helping people with disabilities accumulate tax-free funds for services without losing federal benefits like Medicaid.
The two-term senator is also slated to participate in a Bladen County GOP event in Elizabethtown in the afternoon.
Burr faces a spirited challenge from Democrat Deborah Ross. He said in August he would focus on Senate business - not active campaigning - until the recess.
