VIENNA (AP) - Austria winger Martin Harnik is missing the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Serbia because of a calf injury.
The Austrian Football Federation says the Hannover forward has been replaced by Sturm Graz striker Deni Alar, who got his first call-up from coach Marcel Koller.
Harnik is the team’s most-capped player, who scored 14 goals in 61 matches.
The 26-year-old Alar is the leading top-scorer for Austrian league leader Graz, with nine goals in as many games.
Austria hosts Wales in Vienna on Thursday, then visits Serbia in Belgrade three days later in Group D, which also includes Georgia, Ireland and Moldova.
