JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - House and Senate leaders are hiring the Madison County administrator to become director of the Mississippi Legislative Budget Office.
Tony Greer begins work Nov. 21 in the office that evaluates state agencies’ requests and spending. He is a former Hinds County supervisor and former alderman in Clinton, the hometown of House Speaker Philip Gunn.
Greer sought the central district Public Service Commission seat in 2015, losing in the Republican primary.
Gunn and Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, both Republicans, announced Greer’s new job Wednesday.
The current budget office director, Debbie Rubisoff, is retiring. She is a longtime employee who worked her way up through the ranks of the budget staff. Rubisoff was deputy director of the office before being promoted to the top job after Lee Lindell retired in early 2011.
