BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Though he didn’t support him for president, Gov. John Bel Edwards is congratulating Donald Trump on winning the election and pledging to work with him.

The Democratic governor released a statement Wednesday wishing the Republican president-elect well.

Edwards said: “The campaign is over, and it is critical that we set the politics aside and come together to strengthen the country we all love.”

Louisiana’s governor headed to Washington on Wednesday, seeking further flood aid from Congress - requests that may linger into the new Trump administration.

Edwards says Louisiana “will be a strong partner with President-elect Trump and his new administration as we continue to recover from historic flooding, as we make critical investments in our infrastructure and as we work to give our kids every opportunity to succeed.”
