COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A former Sumter police officer has been arrested by the State Law Enforcement Division and charged with coercing women to have sex with him while he was on duty.

SLED spokesman Thom Berry said in a news release Wednesday that 35-year-old William McKinley Littlejohn has been charged with three counts of office. Each of those counts carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

Arrest warrants say the violations occurred between July 2014 and December 2015.

SLED investigated the case at the request of the Sumter Police Department.

It was not clear if Littlejohn has an attorney.
