New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did in fact send a letter to Donald Trump expressing his support for the GOP nominee’s candidacy, Comcast Sportsnet New England reported Tuesday morning.
“CSN New England confirmed this morning that Bill Belichick did indeed drop a note to Donald Trump on Monday,” the sports network said online.
The confirmation comes hours after veteran Boston sports-radio host and CSN on-air personality Mike Felger told “Chevrolet SportsNet Central” host Trenni Kusnierek on Monday evening that he believed Mr. Trump’s account.
“I actually believe him on that. I think Tom Brady is friends with Donald Trump. I think Bill Belichick is friends with Donald Trump. … I think that they’re socially friendly with the guy and probably support him politically, too,” said Mr. Felger, noting that it would be “pretty easy” for either gentleman to counter “if it was blatantly false.”
Skeptics had expressed doubt that Mr. Belichick actually was the author of the missive that Mr. Trump read from the stump at an election eve rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, a swing state full of potential Trump voters who are die-hard Patriots fans, especially since it read like Mr. Trump’s voice, with buzzwords like “tremendous” and “beautifully” and language attacking the news media.
“Did Bill actually write those words? If he did, it’s the first time I’ve ever heard Bill in my life use the word ’beautifully,’ for anything, but it’s possible,” Mr. Felger said. “I don’t think Donald’s making it up. …. My gut tells me he’s not making it up.”
