COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Fire officials say a man was dead near a smoldering mattress at his central Ohio apartment.
Battalion Chief Steve Martin says firefighters responded to the Columbus building on Monday night after someone living above the unit reported an unusual smell.
The man was found dead inside the unit. Firefighters also found a mattress smoldering. The fire was quickly put out.
It wasn’t immediately clear how the man died. His name hasn’t been released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
