STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Starkville Police have arrested a Columbus teenager for his alleged role in a weekend robbery and subsequent shooting that left a Mississippi State University student dead.
The Commercial Dispatch (https://bit.ly/2fCp7oK ) reports officers and the U.S. Marshal Task Force on Tuesday apprehended 18-year-old Syboris A. Pippins, of Columbus, on a robbery charge.
The robbery occurred Sunday before 21-year-old Joseph Tillman was killed.
Pippins is being held at the Oktibbeha County Jail. His initial court appearance is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the alleged shooter, 20-year-old Jaylen Barker of Columbus, faces a new charge - one count of possession of a stolen firearm - in addition to first-degree murder. Three others, 22-year-old Jamario Pippins, 19-year-old Brandon Sherrod and a 16-year-old boy, were arrested on charges of accessory after the fact.
