RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina was awash in high-profile candidates stumping for votes Monday in the final hours before the election.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was scheduled to appear in the afternoon at an arena on the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, an event wedged between stops in other battleground states including Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan and New Hampshire.
Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine was campaigning in Raleigh, Charlotte and Wilmington. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was closing out her campaign rallies with one last stop at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. The event was to begin at midnight and end in the first moments of Election Day.
Former President Bill Clinton was expected to anchor a midday rally at UNC-Greensboro, while 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin was visiting Richard Petty Motorsports in Mooresville with other women supporting Trump, including Trump’s daughter in-law Lara Trump.
Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate Roy Cooper planned to attend all three rallies Monday with Kaine and Clinton. Republican Gov. Pat McCrory was expected to attend Trump’s Raleigh rally.
