DOVER, Del. (AP) - Unofficial “poll watchers” may be turned away at Delaware voting locations.
The News Journal of Wilmington reports (https://delonline.us/2fvke4y) the state Department of Elections says there is no room at Tuesday’s polls for average citizens who believe it’s their duty to ensure the sanctity of the voting process.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has asked his supporters to act as unofficial poll monitors to limit or identify voter fraud.
Delaware’s Office of the Attorney General issued a statement saying no citizens should interfere with people attempting to vote, but should report any concerns to election officials.
Trump’s state campaign chairman, Rob Arlett, says he expects unofficial poll watchers to show up at polling locations.
State election commissioner Elaine Manlove says voting and security procedures haven’t been changed for this year.
