Since winning the World Series, members of the Chicago Cubs have done a bit of everything. Five million people showed up to the team’s parade. Anthony Rizzo and some of his teammates were on “Saturday Night Live.” Kris Bryant is going to be on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” tonight.
Theo Epstein, the president of Chicago Cubs operations, celebrated in a different manner — he ate goat in the bleachers of Wrigley Field.
According to Shia Kapos of the Chicago Sun-Times, Epstein and the Cubs had an oven-roasted 9 ½ pound goat prepared and delivered from chef Stephanie Izard, who specializes in goat.
The Curse of the Billy Goat has been a long-told tale around the team since Billy Goat Tavern owner William Sianis was barred from entering Game 4 of the 1945 World Series with his pet goat because of the animal’s smell. As the tale goes, Sianis apparently yelled, “The Cubs ain’t gonna win no more!”
The Cubs spent years trying to distance themselves from the “curse” — putting any notion to rest by winning the World Series against the Cleveland Indians.
