KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon says a St. Louis County school district has shown enough improvement that he’ll press for it to get provisional accreditation.

Performance data released Monday shows Riverview Gardens earning 74.6 percent of the points possible. That places the district in the fully accredited range, although the state typically considers several years of data before making an upgrade.

While visiting the district Monday, Nixon noted that its tests scores were 30 points higher than what they were in 2014. He says he’ll urge the state’s governing education board to grant provisional accreditation to the district when the board meets next month.

Riverview Gardens sought an upgrade after earning a score of 79.3 percent last year. But the state wanted more data to show the improvement was sustainable.
