Donald Trump warned voters Sunday that Hillary Clinton could not perform the duties of the presidency while being the “prime suspect” of an FBI investigation, predicting that she will eventually face criminal charges.
“If she was to win, it would create an unprecedented constitutional crisis. In that situation, we could very well have a sitting president under felony indictment and ultimately a criminal trial,” Mr. Trump told a rally in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Republican nominee pledged to bring real change to Washington. “Real change means restoring honesty to our government,” he said.
Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton, the Democratic nominee, are locked in a neck-and-neck race with two days until the election. The race tightened significantly since FBI Director James Comey announced Oct. 28 the reopening of the investigation into Mrs. Clinton’s secret use of a private email server as secretary of state and mishandling classified information.
The Clinton campaign has suggested Mr. Comey had political motives in making the investigation public in the final weeks of the campaign. But they previously commended Mr. Comey’s integrity when he closed the original investigation in July without recommending criminal charges.
“There’s little doubt that FBI Director Comey and the great special agents at the FBI will be able to collect more than enough evidence to garner indictments against Hillary Clinton and her inner circle, despite her effort to disparage and discredit the FBI,” said Mr. Trump.
“We need a government that can go to work on Day One for the American people. That will be impossible for Hillary Clinton, the prime suspect in a far-reaching criminal investigation. Her current scandals and controversies will continue throughout her presidency and will make it virtually impossible for her to govern,” he said. “Let’s hope we don’t have to think about it.”
