Hillary Clinton not on defense in blue states, says John Pedesta

Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, downplayed Sunday the significance of the Democratic presidential nominee campaigning hard in traditional blue states such as Michigan in the final days before the election.

Mr. Podesta said Mrs. Clinton is positioned for victory on Tuesday, with several paths to the White House, but they are leaving nothing to chance.

“We’re going to run through the tape,” he said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Mr. Podesta insisted that shoring up support in Michigan is an offensive move, not a defensive posture taken in response to Republican nominee Donald Trump targeting Democratic strongholds such as Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

He said Michigan could put Mrs. Clinton over the top of the 270 electoral votes need to win.

“We’re going where the votes are. We’re going to finish strong. We feel good about Michigan and the rest of those states,” said Mr. Podesta.

Team Clinton is confident but running hard to the finish line, he said.

“We feel pretty good,” said Mr. Podesta, “but we’re leaving nothing to chance. We’re going to run through the tape. There’s a lot of work to do between now and Tuesday when the polls close.”
