PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island woman born before women had the right to vote says she’s hoping that on Tuesday she will witness the first female elected as president.

Marye Taylor, a 103-year-old resident of Portsmouth, tells the Newport Daily News (https://bit.ly/2eMqYY9) that she’s already cast her ballot for Hillary Clinton.

Taylor says her first presidential vote went to Herbert Hoover and she had been a life-long Republican before the 1992 presidential election. She said she switched her affiliation because she didn’t like the GOP’s stance on issues important to women, including abortion.

Taylor says she’s been discouraged by the divisive tone of the campaign pitting Clinton against Republican Donald Trump. She says candidates have always disagreed, but used to show each other more respect.
