Rob Reiner set the record straight this week after the actor’s Twitter account posted a tweet in support of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The “All in the Family” star said Friday that a pro-Trump message tweeted from his personal Twitter account earlier in the day was the handiwork of a hacker.

“Just learned my twitter account was hacked saying I had a change oh heart and was voting for DT. Disgusting! He is utter garbage. Vote HRC!!” Mr. Reiner tweeted Friday after reclaiming his account.

The bogus tweet, which has since been deleted, said: “I’ve had a change of heart. Go trump!”

A lifelong liberal, Mr. Reiner endorsed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during her White House bid in 2008 and hosted a fundraising event for the candidate at his Los Angeles home last year.

Prior to Friday’s breach, Mr. Reiner had posted frequent criticism directed toward Mr. Trump, calling the candidate earlier this week a “pathologically lying racist lunatic,” and a “lying fraudulent sexual predator.”

“I believe that what we’ve done, what we’ve seen, is the last throes of the Civil War. We’re fighting the last battles, and Donald Trump is leading the way for white nationalism. And it’s sad because people are hanging on to this idea of a white America, immigrant-free America. It’s scary and sad, but I believe we will win it,” Mr. Reiner said during an appearance on MSNBC last month.
