Donald Trump has a 3-point lead over Hillary Clinton in Iowa, according to a Simpson College/RABA Research poll released Thursday.
Mr. Trump was at 44 percent in the poll compared to Mrs. Clinton’s 41 percent, with Libertarian Gary Johnson at 5 percent, Green Party candidate Jill Stein at 2 percent and independent candidate Evan McMullin at 2 percent. Six percent said they weren’t sure.
Head-to-head, Mr. Trump led Mrs. Clinton by 2 points, 46 percent to 44 percent, with 10 percent not sure.
“Iowa is again proving to be one of the closest states in the country,” Republican Tim Albrecht, a RABA Research partner based in Des Moines, said in a release accompanying the poll. “This is a margin-of error race, right down to the wire. We could be in for a late night on Tuesday.”
President Obama carried the state twice, but surveys have shown Mr. Trump has a good opportunity to flip it red this year.
Mr. Trump is scheduled to campaign in Sioux City on Sunday, while Sen. Bernard Sanders is set to campaign on Mrs. Clinton’s behalf in the state on Friday and Saturday.
The survey was taken on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 — after FBI Director James B. Comey disclosed to Congress on Oct. 28 that the bureau learned of the existence of emails that appear to be relevant to its investigation into Mrs. Clinton’s private email set-up.
