ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Eight days before the season opener, Georgia women’s basketball coach Joni Taylor has taken on another title - mother.
Taylor delivered a daughter, Jacie Elise Taylor, at 7:23 a.m. Thursday. It is the first child for her and husband Darius.
Jacie weighs 6 pounds, 5 ounces and is 20 inches long. Mother and daughter are resting and doing well.
Taylor issued a statement thanking everyone for their support. She says Jacie is a “beautiful, healthy baby girl and has already brought so much joy to our lives.”
Taylor is heading into her second season guiding the Lady Bulldogs after taking over for longtime coach Andy Landers. Georgia went 21-10 and reached the NCAA Tournament in her debut year.
The Lady Bulldogs open the season Nov. 11 against South Carolina State.
