Donald Trump’s Republican presidential campaign released a scathing attack ad against Hillary Clinton Thursday over her connections to disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner.
FBI Director James Comey shocked the political world on Oct. 28 when he told lawmakers that agents investigating Mr. Weiner’s text messages to a teenage girl possibly found “pertinent” documents related to Mrs. Clinton’s secret email server. Mr. Trump’s ad asks voters to examine the former secretary of state’s connection to Mr. Weiner via his estranged wife, Huma Abedin, a top aide to Mrs. Clinton since the 1990s.
“Hillary Clinton is under FBI investigation again after her emails were found on pervert Anthony Weiner’s laptop. Think about that,” the ad’s narrator says. “America’s most sensitive secrets unlawfully sent, received and exposed by Hillary Clinton, her staff and Anthony Weiner. Hillary cannot lead a nation while crippled by a criminal investigation.”
The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that agents may need to read up to 650,000 emails found on Mr. Weiner’s laptop. Sources close to the investigation said a search warrant was obtained by the Department of Justice over the weekend.
Sources close to the Clinton campaign told Politico on Oct. 30 that Mrs. Abedin claimed ignorance as to how Mrs. Clinton’s emails — some created between 2009 and 2013 — ended up on her husband’s laptop.
