KINGS POINT, N.Y. (AP) - A committee led by U.S. Rep. Peter King will meet this month to discuss alleged sexual harassment and bullying of cadets at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

The Long Island Republican heads a panel made up of congressional representatives and presidential appointees, including two alumni.

The service academy located outside New York City trains graduates to work on commercial vessels worldwide. It has temporarily shut down an internship program that places cadets on the vessels for one year amid reports of sexual abuse and bullying.

Cadets are still receiving some training on federal vessels. But critics say that education is not as rigorous as it is on commercial vessels.

The meeting is Nov. 14 at the academy in Kings Point, New York.
