ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The body of a pilot who went missing last week has been found with the wreckage of his crashed plane in the Alaska Range.
The Alaska National Guard says the wreckage was spotted by the Civil Air Patrol southwest of Merrill Pass shortly after sunrise Thursday during an aerial search.
The National Park Service says the body of 55-year-old Anchorage pilot David McRae was recovered from Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. The body was turned over to the state medical examiner.
McRae has been missing since he left Anchorage last Friday for Lake Clark. Authorities were not able to contact him and had tried to reach a location where an emergency locator transmitter beacon was activated.
Guard officials say poor weather hampered search efforts for six days until the weather cleared on Thursday.
