HARDIN, Mont. (AP) - The Bureau of Indian Affairs is in talks to re-staff the closed Two Rivers Detention Facility in Hardin.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2fkT5gO ) that the BIA recently posted help wanted ads for a correctional officer, lead correctional officer, cook and food service worker at the Two Rivers Detention Facility on the federal government’s online job board.

Two River Authority Commission Chairman Jon Matovich says the bureau is in talks to again contract with the facility.

The Hardin jail has sat empty for eight of the nine years since its construction. Both the state of Montana and individual counties have declined to house prisoners there. The facility’s only contract came from the BIA in 2014, when the agency housed as many as 250 Native American inmates at the facility.

The BIA ended its previous contract in 2015.
