OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - A former Oakland police officer has been charged with misdemeanor crimes in a sex scandal involving a teenage girl that has embroiled several local law enforcement agencies.

The Oakland Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2fn62Xt) Alameda County prosecutors have charged 30-year-old Terryl Smith with providing police information to the 19-year-old woman who says she had sex with police officers when she was underage, sometimes in exchange for information.

Smith is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 18 on five misdemeanor counts of “unauthorized furnishing of local criminal record.”

Oakland police say that Smith ran the woman’s name in a confidential Alameda County law enforcement database on five occasions from January to April this year and then told her what he learned.

Aside from Smith, Alameda County prosecutors have charged five current and former officers from three different agencies in the case, including three Oakland police officers.
