Ahead of Wednesday’s House leadership election, Rep. Tim Ryan says he’s within “striking distance” of Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and predicted people will be “surprised.”

“We are within striking distance. We’ve got a lot of support and a lot of people that are helping us,” Mr. Ryan, Ohio Democrat, said Tuesday on CNN’s “New Day.”

“I think a lot of people are going to be surprised tomorrow,” he said. “We have a lot of support.”

Mr. Ryan said Reps. Stephen Lynch of Massachusetts and Dan Lipinski of Illinois are two newly announced members who are supporting him, with a few more endorsements coming Tuesday.

“We’re not winning — that’s the main beef I have,” Mr. Ryan said.
