HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The man who a police dog was chasing in Wethersfield when it was fatally injured has been arrested in Hartford after fleeing police there.
WVIT-TV reports that 20-year-old Chauncey Smith was arrested Monday.
Wethersfield Police say the dog named Thor was tracking Smith through a wooded area last week and was badly cut by brambles.
Thor suffered internal bleeding and died.
Wethersfield Police say officers were going to arrest Smith on violation of probation warrants from Hartford when he fled a local motel.
They say he now faces charges of interfering with police and violating a protective order.
The television station says Smith ran from police in Hartford on Monday and was found hiding in a dumpster.
It’s unclear whether Smith has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
