SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Shreveport’s mayor has named a new police chief - the man who’s been interim chief since Chief Willie Shaw retired in July.

Multiple news outlets report that Mayor Ollie Tyler promoted Lt. Alan Crump on Tuesday. She says he has integrity, strength of character and a heart for service.

Crump has been with the department for more than 24 years.

He served in the Navy and the U.S. Army Reserves, and has a criminal justice degree from LSU-Shreveport and a doctorate in theology from Inter-Baptist Theological Seminary Inc.

Crump was among 19 applicants and seven finalists for the post.
